MALAYSIAN Penang native singer Jac Wu has been mistaken for a woman several times because of his clear, high-pitched voice. But this has not dimmed the Penang native’s ever-brightening prospects. Instead, his unique voice led to his first big break as the voice behind One Half, the hit song from the soundtrack to Royston Tan’s getai (street concert) drama "881".
Kelvin Tan, winner of Project SuperStar in 2005 (Singapore), was the original choice to sing the tune. But when the powers that be heard the demo version recorded by Jac, they thought the voice “sounded quite nice and asked if it was a girl”. They gave the newcomer a shot and now the 26-year-old is releasing his debut album, "Although I’m Willing", under Funkie Monkies Production. The company belongs to producer-arranger-composer Eric Ng, who also arranged 881’s soundtrack.
Jac Wu Jia Hui who is an experience singer started singing in pubs at the age of 15 and also a great composer himself believed to be the next David Tao has been written songs for Jacky Cheung, Tanya, Karen Mok, Joey Yong, Gigi Leong, Leon Lai, Nicholas Tse, Jerry Yan and Stefanie Sun.
